O_MILL
The software system O_Mill is used successfully in the cement industry for the control of cement quality (e.g. fineness classes; Blaine) and the optimization of production in cement mills.
O_Mill typically adjusts the fresh feed rate as well as the separator and ventilator speeds as functions of the desired cement quality and the input material grindabilities. The mill outlet pressure or the tailing proportions for two mill compartements can be additional quantities to be adjusted by O_Mill. Cement quality is measured in production using laboratory analyzers or on-line particle analyzers (e.g. Malvern MasterSizer).
O_Mill is based on a proprietary control and measurement-based optimization (MBO) concept with the following results:

O_Mill is based on a proprietary control and measurement-based optimization (MBO) concept with the following results:
- Selection of statistically significant fineness classes that correlate well with the 2-day and 28-day compressive strengths
- Decrease in compressive strength variability
- Increase in production of up to 15% by stabilizing the flows, reducing the safety margin of the 28-day compressive strength, and optimizing the circulating charge
- Decrease in specific energy consumption due to optimal filling of the mill and increased production
